SPRING BREAK--Day 3

This was my 1 thing that I was actually excited about doing. Hoping to have a perfect day, and today was that perfect day. The weather was absolutely beautiful. Warm, but not too hot. 75 ish or 80 I'm guessing. I've heard of the Barton Springs ever since we've lived here and in that 5.5 years, haven't ventured to find them. I've also heard about a kids train that runs through the big Zilker park, and I thought it would be fun to all go.

Our day began with Lucky Charms again and reading the free Spiderwick books that came inside of the boxes. The boys enjoy a mystery read aloud to them (Michael read the entire Narnia series to them last year) so I knew they'd like this. It was fun to read with them.

After seeing Abby's blog about her visit to Great Harvest Bread, I looked to see if we had one in Austin. Sure enough, we do, and I was so excited, my mouth was watering for those oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. We got there and I was so saddened that for some odd reason, their trademark cookies weren't made today and the lady there didn't seem to apologetic about it. We got a few pumpkin choco chip muffins and were on our way to our daily adventure.

The boys kept asking what it was, and I just said a fun adventure. The element of surprise kept them giddy. When we got downtown, I had to circle the park a few times to find a parking spot, which frustrated me. I was so glad that after our third tour de lot, we found a close one. We had a picnic and enjoyed the lovely weather outside.

We got our tickets for the Zilker Zepher train and met some nice people in the long line (spring break for all of austin). I splurged and got snow cones for all of us to whet our whistles. The train was fun, circling around the park and about 25 minutes long.

We then went to wade in the springs, but it was slippery. I think only Matthew fell in and got wet. We didn't stay very long because I wasn't really prepared to have everyone soaking. I said we'd come back and swim when daddy was with us. I like this picture of Alyssa...she wanted to take her piggy tails out and I told her no because she'd be hot. She got out of the water and walked up this little gravel hill, to "get away" from me and ducked her head down (so I couldn't see her) and started to tug at her hair band to pull them out. When I said, "Alyssa, you'll be hot" she realized I saw her and she walked up a few steps higher and tucked her head further down and starked yanking again. I laughed to myself at her defiantly doing what she wanted to do and thinking she was being sneaky. She's only 2 and half.

We then left this portion of the park after 3 hours and drove down the road to the Botanical Gardens. I've done a few photography sessions here, but it had been a while since I'd been back. I rented another lens and brought it along to try to snap a few shots of the kids. I got just a few, the boys thought this big garden maze was fun to run through and Alyssa was quite tired from the days events. I had to carry her and my big heavy camera bag at the end. We just missed the traffic home at 4:05 and stopped off at an Exxon for gatorade and the boys got a cookie ice cream sandwich that they said tasted like heaven. Alyssa had fallen asleep. We stopped off at Daddy's work since Tyler never gets to go while he's in school. They had fun playing on the equipment. I left them to drive home with Michael and I took sleeping alyssa to go get the frozen pizza ready at home.

After a bath and scriptures, this slightly sunburned bunch is ready for bed...at least I am.

Too bad we had to end our day with this.....paint. on. floor. not. happy. mama.

The only reason i'm making a big deal of spring break is because I feel like we don't do a whole lot of fun stuff just me and the kids. Dad is the fun one around here. AND with Tyler in school now, I have to optimize on his "face time" with me so he can remember fun times instead of me just picking him up from school every day.

I think you are doing a great job. I love the picture of all of the kiddos freshly bathed and wrapped in towels. Wet kids are just the cutest!

Haha, I love the part about Alyssa being "sneaky." It's like when kids put a blanket over their head...thinking that because you can't seem them, they can't see you. :)

How did the paint get on the floor?

I did the "fun mommy" thing last year for Spring Break for the same reasons -- but it was exhausting!

It looks like you guys are having fun!
