SPRING BREAK--Day 1

I've declared this the week of fun. The week of me and my kids. I love when school is out because it is party time! So sad Michael had to go to work today, but he took off the last 2 days this week so that we can do something fun. With daylight savings yesterday, it was really nice to get to sleep in a bit and not have to rush Tyler off to school. Alyssa joined me on Michael's pillow and I didn't have to roll out of bed until 8:20ish...wow, was that enjoyable:) I thought the boys might still be asleep, but as AJ and I walked back, they were playing lego's in their jammies. I asked who wanted a bowl of special spring break Lucky Charms and they excitedly jumped up to run to the kitchen....animals and all.....
I was actually quite grateful for the gloomy rainy day because last night when I asked Michael which activity he thought I should do which day, the weather was a big factor. I decided not to invite friends this week, to just enjoy my kids all alone. We LOVE our friends and couldn't survive many days without them, but then the kids play and the moms talk, and I wanted to focus on them. The boys have been asking ever since their birthday party to go to the "jumpy place." Well, with 3 chillin's it adds up, so I kept telling them "not today." Recently I said, "maybe we'll go over spring break." So with the rain, it was the perfect choice to go to the jumpy place. Since I forked over $22 for my 3 children, we had to stay longer than I can usually handle...and since this week is all about the kids, I had to do it. After 2.5 hours, they were ready to go, although they didn't admit it. They got quite sweaty and the boys were so adorable lifting and pushing Alyssa in places she needed that extra assistance. I went through tunnels a handful of times, but I could feel it in my 29 year old body that it wasn't workin' out too well for me. Some places I had to crawl on my stomach and bend my body in half to get through.

I had one of the teens working there snap this shot of us.....

After our play time, it was still rainy outside and we went to drop off a bday present to a friend. I've celebrated it with her every year the past 4 years. Candida is transitioning from 1 house to another...so we sat in lawn chairs with her mom and neighbor in her new kitchen with crazy wallpaper. the boys played their Wii system for a bit and had fun with that, and I reminded myself that I'm ok to wait for that whole video game thing (check out her couch)! The cover was missing. We came home to them running back to their rooms to resume the lego/stuffed animal games, so who needs video games? They love to play together.

Once at home, I began making cinnamon rolls with yeast that expired 6 years ago. We keep it in the fridge and I personally NEVER use it, only Michael does when he makes pizza...I just used a bit more and came out ok. Our neighbor Clair stopped by with Violet. The kids love her, although I wonder if we overwhelm the little one sometimes. She looked so cute in our little giraffe costume.

Michael came home a bit early, I'm sure because patients didn't make their appointments with all the rain and such. We had last nights leftovers and then came Family Home Evening that we do every monday night. Tonight we talked about preparing for baptism. A special year for us, Tyler will be baptized on his birthday in November. My dear friend Linda recommended a book, and I found another one with pictures that we read/discussed tonight. We are so excited for this day.

THEN for the activity Michael did the mentos/diet coke thing, but it wasn't what he expected (this is the 2nd time we've attempted this). Maybe its b/c we got generic diet coke? The kids were enthralled nonetheless.

Then after my dough rose twice, we began our cinnamon rolls. It had been a LONG time since I had done this, but the kids enjoyed the process, especially using dental floss to slice each roll from the log. They also loved helping me spread the butter and sug/cin. mixture with their hands.

oh, and one more thing...I do not encourage the boys to wearing matching clothes, they just happen to have a handful of items that are identical. Lately, they TRY to match...showing solidarity, I guess. The other day it was an orange longhorn shirt with red sweats...ooh, that was painful, but cute at the same time.

I just read the first sentence of your previous post and I am feeling guilt...gotta go check it out.
You are such a good Momma. I am afraid of summer with them all home (we don't get a spring break here). What fun, I would like it very much to be your child (plus cinnamon rolls are like, my fave!)

sounds like a lot of fun. i have to ditto emma jo! you are a good mom. you are inspiring me...

be grateful on the 22 for all three kids. it's 10/per kid here to go to the jumping place. we are still putting it off. on the mentos thing, it does make a difference. we actually did an experiment with our kiddos and bought all different brands to see which ones worked the best. pretty fun.

love the updates. we miss you guys!

You have Spring Break a week earlier than everywhere else! :o) I'll be grateful to read all your activities this week so I can steal them from you for next week.

I've put off the jumping place for the same reason -- $$!

i love the idea of taking this time just for your kids. I'm sure they will totally love this week...man those cinnamon rolls look good. I have a recipe that is supposed to duplicate Cinnabon...maybe it's time to try it.
I've never heard of the mentos and coke thing...is it supposed to explode?
did you know if you chew wintergreen lifesavers in the dark they make sparks...has to be real lifesavers not breathsavers.

Your cinnamon rolls look downright sinful!

We don't get spring break until Friday the 14th! I'm slightly jealous of all the fun stuff you've gotten to do already!

I think it's so great that you want it to just be you and your kids this spring break. Reading your blog makes me want to be a mom sooo bad! Stupid school...

And I remember how much Tyler, Mathew and Alyssa love the "jumpy place." The stairs to the slide look exactly like the kind we played on in Houston.

And by the way, I am super jealous that y'all have a spring break!
