Recently, Tyler's piano teacher said this, "I love Tyler! My favorite thing is that he will seem totally serious and then his smile will light up the room!" It makes me all emotional to know that she recognizes this about him in the small amount of time she see's him each weel.
Oh my how I love this boy. Yesterday (January 26th) he took a pre-Taks test and came home pretty upset about it. He wanted to tell me what was going on, but wanted me to guess it out of him. It frustrated me a bit that he wouldn't just tell me, but I played along and did it on his terms. After I guessed that it was a test he took and that he didn't do as well on it as he would have liked, I asked Matthew if he knew and he blurted out that Tyler got an 83. Tyler said "thanks a lot" and went upstairs. I gave him a minute or two, then went up to chat with him.
I laid on the bed next to him and started to scratch his back/play with his hair. He loves that. He had his head covered with his blanket, then his hood, then I said I wanted to see his face. It was a good chat. I got emotional as I told him how much I love him and that I pray to Heavenly Father each night that I might be in tune enough to know if my kids need something or are upset. I said I understood he wants to keep some things to himself, but he doesn't have to be embaressed to tell me anything. It was a comprehension test and he is worried about the writing portion coming up b/c he knows he will be asked to write 5 paragraphs about himself and he said thats hard for him. I told him that writing in his journal would be a good practice for that. It was a good chat. Man, I love him so much, and I know that times are a comin' that he will hold back more and more. I was at the school for something else and felt I needed to talk to his teacher about what we could do. She was surprised he was so upset by it, it was good for us both to chat about it.
Anyway....wanted to jot some of that down before the party pictures. He has been very into football playing with friends in our yard day after day for a long time. He wanted a football party, and so the football theme cake worked out pretty well.
It was a football/silly band party. They are all now over those things.
Cali and I took him Chic Fil A for lunch...he also really loves Slim Jims
LOVE LOVE LOVE this above and below shot of my oldest and youngest.
That very day as we visited him, they were doing this to the floors at our home. It was quite painful.
Remember the hallway quote above?
oops, I spilled dry oatmeal in this wet glue.
looking better. feeling better.
cali helping me make the cake for the party
very pleased with the cake, though the side of the football got messed up
he didn't want to plan any party games, just play football the entire time of the party, so they did. I had to let go of my ideas of what a party should be and let him do his thing. They stopped only for food.
These are out of order, as this was before the party began.
I had an ice chest full of root beer and sprite, his favorites (no more kiddie box drinks for this 10 year old)
fun times. towards the end of the party, Russ and the rest of my family arrived for Matthew's baptism the next day.
I have a 10 year old!

Aw that is such a tender story. I'm glad you got some sweet one-on-one time with Tyler. It's a good kid.
double digits--10! Now that's a big milestone for all of you. He's definitely not a little kid anymore. Love that he is so tenderhearted. So is the floor finished? Are you happy with it?
