Michael and I flew out of town on Thursday night and gone for 3 full days, arriving just before midnight Sunday night. I am such a big advocate of the importance to "time away" for couples. Regular date nights and occasional trips are important for strengthening and sustaining a marriage. Just time to be alone and enjoy each others company without interuptions. Some see that as selfish, but I see it as necessary. Althought it is hard to leave my little ones, hard to make arrangements for them, it is worth the time well spent with my hubby. When my friend asked me to come out to take the pictures for her wedding (and my flight was paid for) we thought it was a perfect trip to take just the two of us (especially since we used a voucher for Michael). We felt like a young and carefree couple...seeing the sights, eating whatever food we wanted, having pleasant conversation, mixed in with some people watching (and enjoying conversations about each of our observations).
Neither one of us had been to San Diego before, but we'd both been to LA (without each other) and of course San Fran. I was so excited to be there for the sealing/wedding of my freshman roommate in college...and I've wanted to go to that temple since it opened in 1993. We also got to meet up with some friends of ours from Austin that were there at the same time, and stayed with a friend of mine from high school. Of course I have many pictures to come, but we also got a new computer that we are setting up tonight and then I'll transfer all of those images onto that, so you'll just have to wait. I'm still not even done blogging our California reunion and although most of you can live without seeing all that, I'll post anyway because this is my scrapbooking, doncha know?!
We had some fantastic friends and family here taking care of our 3 kids while we were away, for which I am SO grateful! I even have a few pictures to show what the kids did while we were gone.

looking forward to hearing more about your trip. sounds like so much fun. Cute pic of you and Michael.
Amen to weekend getaways. I'm glad you had a great time.
I knew you were going away, but couldn't remember where you were going. Sounds like so much fun! And that's a really good pic of you and Mikey.
I'm sad! I wanted to see you!!
I agree that time spent as just a couple is necessary. I actually think that it makes life better for the kids. You come home refreshed, reconnected and content. Date nights are the same. Besides it is good to teach your children that they can rely on other adults besides just you.
I'm with you there--time away as couples is SO important. Maybe you feel the same way because of the major we shared. I remember a class by Bro. Barlow where he said that investing money into your marriage in the form of dates and regular getaways was as important an investment as a house, car, insurance, etc.
Good for you guys! Once M is done nursing I'm really looking forward to doing some of that stuff. Can't wait to see more pictures.
I could not agree with you more. Couples need time away to just be couples!! Warren and I are going to New York in November - business conference. YEA!! I am glad you had a good time.
You look great in that pic! I also love the shots from your previous post. Next time you're in Utah, could you please please please do my family portraits!?
How did it work taking pictures at the temple? Was it as difficult as I heard? Look forward to more postings from you! I am behind on my posts as well...
Hey Kristen:
OMG! Love your pics, especially the temple in the new one and silloute of your fam at the beach. WOW! Can't wait to have you snap my family again soon! Purely beautiful!
I concur. A little get away is well worth the effort. Have some kid free time.
I can't wait to see more pictures of more of you Cali pictures!
I am so glad you guys got to have a getaway! The picture of the temple is beautiful! I can't wait to see more. :)
Next time I'll be sure to get the scoop on your blog before I call you! :)
I totally agree--it's so important to have time away with your spouse. That's who you're going to be with forever while your kids find other companions. :) I'm so jealous that you got to go to the San Diego temple! The only time I went was at night so it was closed. I did get to see the outside though--it's gorgeous.
We have a group shot, but someone else took it and I have to wait for the cd. The original 7 belnap siblings (Warren's mom) wear red shirts and are numbered 1-7. Their spouses are numbered 1A, 2A, etc. The "A" means "addition." All of the grandchildren wear blue shirts and are numbered 1-30? Their siblings are numbered 1A, etc. The great grandchildren wear green shirts and are also numbered for now 1-36. Lots of fun!!
