Star Wars was a big theme with them. About 7 months ago Rich was having massive headaches and they found a brain tumor. Excellent health. 34. He fought like crazy. We sent drawings, saying "May the Force be with You" and the boys continuously remembered their family in their prayers. I didn't take this pict below, but I swapped a head for them, so it was on my computer. His face doesn't show it here, because he was notoriously funny faced in pictures. But he was a really really good guy, great father, caring husband. My heart brakes for his wife and children.
It's very sobering and humbling. We've watched the past 7 months as he posted on a Caring Bridge blog his struggles and triumphs. It just doesn't seem fair. Life isn't about fair though. We need to live each day to the fullest. Fill it with joy. If you are interested in reading his journal entries, click here. About a week ago was Rich's last post, but they were all so inspirational. Philosophical. His audience/readers was huge and spanned the globe and through various denomenations. He shared his testimony over and over again and his courage. Michael played softball with him a few years in a row, he was very sporty. The past few months he's been in a wheelchair, so he's made it to a place where he will be made whole. I know he will be blessed to reunite with his family someday and I'm so grateful for that understanding. But my heart still weeps for those children and his wife. Matthew offered our family prayer this evening, just after we told them the news. It was so sweet and thoughtful, and completely focused on this family. Oh, how my heart aches.
