Father Son Campout

Our church does a Father/Son campout at least once a year. Michael lives for these outings. Looks forward to them all year--and so do the boys. I help where I can, but Michael excitedly likes to organize all the supplies he'll need. I at least offered to buy food for them.
The grocery list was simple :
S'mores
gatorade
hamburgers
buns
cheetos
They grabbed apples and carrots and a few other items at home, too. Since Michael gets off work at 2 on Fridays, they were pretty much ready to head out of town when the boys got home from school at 3. I sent the camera with requests for pictures and this is all I got...but its a pretty good one.

They borrowed poles from M's co-worker, Tom. They fished the afternoon they got there, but the best was in the morning. He said the boys got bored pretty easily, but still hung around fairly close when he caught this fish. There was a lot of excitement from all the little boys at the campsite, and as you can tell, they all gathered around to view the fish. When I asked Tyler what was his favorite part about the campout, he said "Daddy catching the fish AND when Garrett and me built a fire by ourselves." I wondered where the adults were during that fire building, but sounds like they made it out ok (Debra, did you hear about that one)? It sounded like they were just messing with the ash from the night before and rubbed wood together until eventually the flames came. Maybe I should just be proud of my little cub scouts. Michael told me that their small ration of s'mores spread around the camp as if they were the loaves and fishes. They seemed to be the only boys with them.

I planned to do something fun with my girls and to ask around to see who else would be boy-less, but didn't do that until the last minute. Those I talked to agreed to a pizza night, and it ended up being at my house. Easier for me, I just had to tidy my kitchen a little bit. It was so fun to just sit around my living room and chat with friends and let our kids play and have fun. I hadn't had a friend chat-fest in a while and it was much needed. They all left by 9:30 and I gathered my girls in my room (they are both usually there anyway) and after a late night on the computer, we all slept in there with my bedroom door locked and my cell phone by my side--just in case (Michael asked if the baseball bat was under my bed, but I didn't think about that one). I got to sleep diagonal across my bed, which is a simple delight I can revel in when my hubby has to be gone from me (pretty much just once a year on this campout).

In the morning, I took my girls out to breakfast and we awaited our beloved boys with plans to meet up at the soccer game, but it ended up pouring cats and dogs ALL. DAY. LONG. I love a good rain. The boys came home and I loved seeing Michael giddy as a school boy as he and the boys told us stories. We also shared our stories and enjoyed the rest of our rainy day together.

Oops. I wasn't finished--I don't know what I pushed! Anyway, congrats, and I've been catching up on so many things I have missed, the most important being that youhave anumber four! My hat's off to you, lady. This stuff is not for sissies! She is beautiful--following in the tradition, I see.

How fun! How smart of you to have a girl fest while the boys are away!

Father son campout? I'm afraid Clark may never know what that is like. The fire building sounds precarious but boyish and fun and I'm glad you got to hang out with friends. I also love to sleep diagonal in the bed. How funny.
