Last year Tyler wanted baseball while Matthew did soccer. This year they both wanted soccer and I suggested we try to get them on the same team: Tyler down one and Matthew up one. Michael wanted them to feel they had their own thing and to be individuals and all that stuff. I suggested we ask them. They both belted out that they wanted to be on the same team (whew for me).
We are not a year round team sports family. I don't like sports in the fall as much because we are just getting adjusted back to school. We signed them up in February and now I'm realizing we'll have a baby somewhere in the middle of the season. All we've ever done is YMCA and we are happy with their "low-key-ness."
Unfortunately we got stuck with a Friday at 6:30pm practice time. I guess I forgot to remind them about their practice and when I told them it was time to get ready and they realized they were going to play, they grabbed each other, hugged and jumped up and down squeeling with excitement. It was a sight to behold.

Some Tyler shots (click to enlarge, the last one he has a pretty funny face):
Waiting it out on the sidelines...

Our first practice was yesterday and our first game was today (Sat. the 4th). The boys got in there, kicked the ball, not afraid, so excited. It was fun to watch, despite the suffering I felt from host, long pants, heat. It was even a cool 85 outside.
I was very grateful that Alyssa sat well in her seat because Michael got roped into coaching. When we went to practice yesterday, they realized there had been a mix-up and we actually had no coach. At that point they asked for a volunteer, and the only guy that said he could do it was a man who said it was his great grandson on the team. I kept nudging Michael, but he had to think about it through the practice (while the head of YMCA sports led the team in practice). He realized he could do it just fine.
This is the team with coaches, notice Great Grandpa on the right. We thought he looked more like just a grandpa, but he assured us, he is the Great.
So Michael and great grandpa will team coach, but at the game, Michael pretty much took the lead. The boys are pretty excited he is the coach. He was a bit nervous to do it because last time he coached, it was to a bunch of 3 year olds--this will be different.
P.S. Tyler has orange hair and Matthew has blue hair and Alyssa has purple hair from the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt we went to that morning.

You are one super mama! Matthew and Tyler look like old pro's on the soccer field.
Love all the different hair colors too. Very fun!
That's so cute. I was wondering about the hair.
I'm so excited for them to get to play together! That's so fun! Great shots of them playing. And way to go, Michael, being super dad, and you being "super mama" :)
I'm glad you cleared up the hair thing, I was a bit confused. How sweet your kids are. I love the determined faces and that they have so much fun together. And I love that their socks are so long they look like tights.
i just have to say that the pictures that you take are the best pictures i have ever seen. and your children help with their adorability.
That is so great that they are on the same team...visions of what may be with Sam and Ethan. I just love brothers. It does my heart good to see two little boys, who are so good to each other. Love it.
Very cool that your YMCA let you do that. We tried and tried, but couldn't get ours on the same team.
How wonderful that they are so excited about playing together! And I must say, those are some wild uniforms. ;o)
Maybe it is just the crazy red on green doing funny things to the colors but I think maybe tyler's hair is turning orange. It might just be some recessive trait, mine did the same thing a couple of times in high school. :)
Jeff is coaching Reilly's team this year too.
