It's official, he is headed to kindergarten next year....waaaa. It was heartbreaking to send Tyler, and it will be heartbreaking to send Matthew. Off to be educated and instructed by another for a majority of their days. I have to keep reminding myself that its good for them, and for me. But it brings a twinge of sadness. I've done a homeschool preschool swap for preschool with both boys and for the past 3 years I've done the Busy Bee Preschool curriculum written by one of my friends. This year, she happened to be in my group. It is a great program based on President Hinckley's "be's" and I love the "bee" mascot. I was in charge of graduation, so we did a little party at our house today and I was happy it turned out pretty well. I first taped a bunch of "bee" cards around the house. For the kids to find and gather. I found this card game (Bee Attitudes) at a church book store by the San Antonio temple a few months ago. Here are the cards:
Here are the 6 kids in our group:
Here are the moms/teachers (collectively, we have 23 children--wow).
Then, I got out my "special treat" that I spent most of the day on Tuesday making. A variation on my cake truffles, found on the Bakerella blog. She made it look so easy, I had to attempt it! I like that they look like mini cupcakes. Here is my truffle with the BEE on top:
Now here is how I made the bee's (really, I don't tackle crazy obstacles, but when I saw on Bakerella's mother day post how easy she made those flowers look, I had to do this for the bee's). Matthew and Alyssa even helped me.I took a photocopy of my bee's and put it under wax paper and with my wilton bottle and melted chocolate inside, I traced the bee with the brown. (Alyssa took this shot)
To make these truffles a bit different, I first put the balls into a mini cupcake tray (chilled them, removed them) and then dipped in other colored chocolate.
My boy is growing up....

I think Matthew is so cute. If you were still here, I am sure that he and Reilly would be great friends (being only a couple of months apart in age). There are a group of boys in that age group in the ward now and they are so cute together.
oh wow! You are bakerella!! that is so incredible I almost want to try it :) When I first saw the picture I thought you had put paper cut outs on the truffles. so cool!
You are good, girl! You have skills. Looks like a fun time was had by all.
Isn't it hard to watch the little ones grow up? You did an amzing job on everything! What a special day for Matthew!
You are amazing. I love how you involve your children in the process. It's easy to get caught up in the way things look, rather than how the kids get to contribute. The tongue concentration is GREAT! BTW, Alyssa is getting to be a terrific photographer!
Wow! You are a very good Mom! I can't believe you did a home preschool. That's a lot of work. I love the bee theme. Very smart!
I'm very lucky because here in Killeen they have an all day preschool program at all the elementary schools. I too cried the first day Alec went to school.
WOW!! Good for you. What a fun idea. It is so hard to see them grow up. Kaylee's last day of Kindergarten is next week and I can't believe she will be in school all day next year. It is so crazy how fast they grow up.
The bee truffles look like the coolest things ever. You certainly qualify for supermom in my book.
Those little bees are so cute! I can't believe Matthew and Kyle and Abigail all go to KG next year. :o)
OH SO YUMMY LOOKING> Can I live with you for a week and eat?
Wow, you inspire me. . . . and you don't think you are a good mom sometimes? Well even if I can't see what you are like all of the time, the glimpses I get on your blog show a pretty cool mom that includes her children, teaches her children new things, trusts her children and believes in them, teaches important attributes, gives time and effort to teach preschool, and much more. You are super creative and cute and I love learning from you! -Jessica
